What is the best way to calculate volunteer hours given by foster providers without it becoming overcomplicated? We use Shelter Luv.

There was a discussion about this on a separate forum that I belong to, and most orgs seem to go by the 3hrs a day rule of thumb, regardless of the number of fosters in the home. We've adopted the 3hrs a day for fosters as well.

We have college students who have to log hours for community service. We advertise the opportunity as 2 hours per day, but we also let the fosters count more or less, depending on their own experience. A high-energy dog will require more time than a lazy cat!

This is NOT for our internal calculations. I actually would like to know more about how organizations count volunteer hours in budgets. Right now, we do not have volunteer labor in our budget.

Thanks for sharing the document! I didn't see it before this but was very happy to download it. We've talked about trying to add volunteer hours for fosters as way to hopefully recruit more fosters, but have not done so yet.
