Wanted to flag this for our California folks. California Assembly Bill AB 2010 that has already passed the Assembly, just cleared its first Senate committee, and is now getting positioned for a full Senate vote.
Quick summary: the bill would exempt qualifying high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter providers from a few facility requirements, most notably the dedicated surgical suite rule. This would be big as it opens the door for MASH-style mobile clinics to operate out of community spaces like gyms and community centers instead of needing a fixed surgical facility. For rural and underserved counties where a permanent clinic just isn't realistic, this would be a game changer.
We're watching this closely at Orange County Animal Allies given our own Free Spay and Neuter Project, which relies on mobile clinic access in underserved parts of OC.
