A group of us are in the process of starting a shelter and we are looking for a reputable website that offers free logos.  Do you suggest we get one with a copyright?  We don't have very much money at this time

If you are a 501-c3, you can get Canva Pro for free and you can create a logo yourself. But here are other ways to make your own logo. I just create a few logo in Canva using their new feature AI. I just ask AI to create logo for an animal shelter.  Good Luck and Congrats on your new shelter.

I think you can also make free logo with Wix.

Canva offers all 501(c)3 organizations a free subscription.  You have to upload your non-profit paperwork and it take about a week to get approved.  You can use this software for logos but also for artwork for social media ads, artwork for printed pieces and much more.  I've been extremely pleased with them.  Use their software daily.  Be sure you log in to the canva for nonprofits.  Also Techsoup.org offers all sorts of free or reduced price software and hardware for nonprofits.

We had a graphic artist do our first logo for free, but found out we really needed quite a few different versions of it for different applications.  We then spent just $100 to have an artist on Fiverr design a new logo, and give us about 25 different formats of it.  Well worth the money, and it's unique.
