I am the supervisor at Stillwater Animal Welfare in Oklahoma and we are moving forward with getting a new building. I am asking everyone I can if you have recommendations on brands or companies you prefer when it comes to shelter material. This includes dog kennels, catios, washer/dryer brand, pressure washer system, especially HVAC systems…. anything!

I am now researching shelter products and there are just so many options. I prefer to hear from others what they have tried and liked or disliked.

If you have the time to give me any recommendations or heads up on a brand you don't like, I would really appreciate it!

Yes, but he recently designed another shelter and used one of the HVAC units that everyone has been telling me to stay away from.

    HVAC Aaon

Washer/Dryer: industrial grade (we use Huebsch)

No pressure washing, we use hydrofoamer with Rescue Concentrate.  We use color coding system of scrub brushes, etc. made by Vikan.

If you'd like to come see our shelter there are also several in the DFW metroplex that I could point out to visit.

I would recommend looking into Shelter Planners of America. Even if you don't work with them directly, you may be able to find some recommendations by looking at their recent works or making a quick phone call.

    Here's their website https://www.shelterplannersofamerica.com/

A timely thread as we're also looking at some infrastructure modifications but also because we've become weary of the 2-3 HVAC emergencies a year despite annual servicing. Plan for to minimize problems to avoid emergencies!

A place to start may be  by maintaining a spreadsheet with a detailed list of the equipment currently installed: make, model, invoice# and/or proposal ID, install date & other details. Check warranty information and/or on-line searching may give you some idea of useful lifetime which I record in the spreadsheet & compare to in-use times. Replace before end of life expectancy.

That brings us to the question here. Process wise, we're planning to take one or more architects recommendations and discuss them with one or more trusted general contractors.  Once you have some specifics, you can search out opinions on those. Note that HVAC firms deal primarily in one brand of equipment - good for them maybe not the best for you. So when looking for an HVAC contractor to ask, find ones that advertise makes you're interested in for their opinion.

Happy to share when we have results from the process.
