  • 1.  Closed for intakes...again

    Posted 08-07-2024 03:10 PM

Hi all! New to this forum and Maddie's Fund and finding the information and knowledge in this community so diverse!

I am the founder of a non-profit that started as a TNR program 3 years ago that has morphed into a full rescue program with TNR, adoptions, rescue of medical cases, and now we have a brick and mortar location! A lot of growth in a short time! As we grow and go through the expected growing pains, I am finding more and more that we have to close for intakes more frequently than I would like. Part of the issue is the lack of resources in our community and just not being able to keep up, but the other is funding. I am wondering if there is advice or thoughts on how to stay open to intakes while in the growing stages or do I just need to be ok with closure at times? I just dislike the redundancy of having to announce closure repeatedly. Thoughts, ideas? I am open to all!

Thank you so much for this forum and community!

Hello and congratulations and thank you for all that you are doing to help the cats! How about starting a wait list instead of  "closing". (almost the same thing but gives people hope )  Often times if people know there is hope they are very willing to wait and take care of kitties in the interim.  There are times when you do have to stop intake for your own sanity and the best interest of the organization and the animals.  With regard to funding, are you asking for donations or surrender fees?  We do but are  flexible on this and don't have any "set" fees or donation amounts  but if you don't ask usually you won't get anything.  Asking for an extra donation at either time of adoption or surgery of (you name it) $10, $20 at time of adoption to help support spays/neuters might help bring in some more funds as well. Do you partner with any petco or petsmart stores? They have nice grants available. Do you have  a set fee or minimum fee for spay/neuter surgeries? Have enough space to add a small cat cafe where you could charge admission for people to interact with the cats?  Best of luck for continued success!
