Thanks to Cinimon for the amazing talk today! If you want to schedule a session with Cinimon (which I highly recommend!), please go to CinimonClark.com and if you put SHELTER in the code, you'll get a 15% discount. This could be for general shelter decisions, individual dog counseling or an animal intuitive reading.

I think it would be helpful if there was a clear statement made similar to the following: "There is currently no way to assess if an animal is schizophrenic or suicidal. If you believe it's possible for animals to be schizophrenic or suicidal, and you suspect a pet or foster is, please try doctor prescribed medications and consistent environmental and emotional safety measures first before fulfilling the wish to die." I think it's very dangerous to convince the public to honor animal suicidal ideation and portray it as the right thing to do, especially when it's coming from a psychic and not any medical community. Also, I don't think it's wise to tell the public that Native Americans talk to animals. That is a racist trope that is repeated often, and I would hope a psychic would intuit how that hurts the Indigenous community.

Really enjoyed this conversation -- a topic that doesn't get enough visibility. It is very hard to make the best decision for all involved when there is so much judgement from those who don't do what we do.  And even if we can get past that, we have to accept our grief and forgive ourselves, like you discussed. Thank you again for this.

As an actual Indigenous person, I am shocked and appalled at this talk. The racism, sanism, ableism and so forth allowed to occur in this talk along was disgusting. The erasure of legitimate Indigenous epistemologies was outright colonialism in action. I find it disturbing that this was allowed for an organization that claims to care about diversity, equity, and inclusion.

I thought Cinimon shared such an interesting perspective on putting the pet's needs before our own emotions and desires. This is something many of us in rescue struggle with because we want to save every animal and help every dog that comes our way. However, as Cinimon explained, every pet has their own agenda, and it is important for us to slow down, pay attention, and truly listen to what they are telling us.

One of my biggest takeaways was the reminder that making the best decision for an animal is not always the easiest decision for us emotionally. Sometimes helping an animal means accepting outcomes that are difficult, while still keeping the animal's quality of life and individual needs at the center of our decisions.

I also appreciated the message of giving ourselves grace and forgiveness. Rescue work can be emotionally challenging, and it is easy to carry guilt or question our decisions. Hearing the reminder that we are doing the best we can for the animals in our care was both encouraging and important.

Thanks for joining us on this one too Julie! I think we are all guilty of getting in the weeds and forgetting the big picture-which includes taking care of ourselves for the long haul.  I'm glad we are finally talking about this in our industry-it's important to know we all share these same struggles and we can't forget to be kind to ourselves too.
