Thanks to the 199+ people and paws who joined us on today's Community Conversations call! The recording is now available to watch on-demand. Below you'll find a recap of today's call and the resources shared.

    Call Recap

    • Question of the Day: What's the most fun thing you have trained/taught your pet to do? Tell us the pet and the trick!
      • "Taught my Bactrian camel to fetch a toy. 🤣" - Cindi Delany, DVM - UCD KSMP, MMPC
      • "My senior pup Hazel knows how to jump if you tell her 'up!' It's very cute." - Michelle Pease
      • "Boomer, a Bernese Mountain Dog, loved to sit up which we called Raise the Woof!  Everyone would give him treats for that…so he did it often." - Sharon Fletcher
      • "Taught my terrier to dance for treats" - Ernest Hagan
      • "Unintentionally taught our cat Arlo to enter Barbie's Dream House to get treats … 'cause that's how we get her out of there." - Chris Fitzgerald
      • "I work with feral cats so the most fun thing I've taught them is not to be afraid of me! 🙂 (I also taught my horse to rear on command - very dramatic.)" - Kristen Petrie
      • "Reggie, another Berner, will 'take a bow'" - Sharon Fletcher
      • "My German Shepherd knows "fetch a big stick" and will go find a large branch when he brings me a little twig if I give him the command." - Todd Cramer
      • "I am potty training my Parrot!" - Christine Teuscher
      • "I have a new adoptive dog (2 weeks) who was used as a breeder and wasn't exposed to indoors at all. She has learned to come inside the house AND go through a doggy door! YAY!!" - Stefanie Holzman
      • "My ridgeback will sit up with crossed paws to get treats, we call it bear, and she looks adorable doing it." - Steph Kendrick
      • "PJ (just turned 3 on Friday) learned "Follow Me" when I hold a treat in front of his nose, and I walk past something he might react to. I learned that after attending a training session at East Bay SPCA with Dr. Sophie Liu." - Irene Chansawang
      • "Trained a set of ducks to "go to bed" back into their barn." - Dee Cummins
      • "Mine are the same! If my Lhasa Apso or Maltese hear a crinkly bag open, they come running!" - Erin Dinsmore
      • "Not necessarily a fun trick but fun results: I had a Treeing Walker Coonhound and a Pitbull/Collie mix and I decided to do scent work and it turned out my Pitbull/Collie was SO MUCH faster at finding a scent than my hound was!" - Kristin Moro
      • "My son taught all my dogs to spin in place before feedings." - Yvonne Haddox
      • "My GSD says 'helllooooooo' to us whenever we come home. So cute!" - Sheila Segurson
      • "My Rottweiler knows that "uh oh" means that there's a "pick up" on the kitchen floor. He does not eat it if there's no prompt and he has a strong leave it :)" - MeLissa Webber
      • "I have greyhounds... not well known for being "trickie". They come to the kitchen when they hear the ice maker, they walk "by me", AND they recall about 95% of the time!!!" - Mary Flores
      • "My dog has taught himself to be in the kitchen when my toddler is eating in her highchair. He watches the ground under her intensely for food" - Danielle Faford
      • "Labs...one is trained for search and rescue. Just retired." - Tammy Anckner
      • "We did not teach him, but Hugo, our 126lb Lab/Retriever/Chow regularly crosses his front paws when laying down. And ALWAYS let's us know when it is time to walk!" - Debra DeVries
      • "Foster kittens all learn to snuggle on their back and ask for belly kisses. They ask by waving their front paws. I reward with the kiss and lots of praise. They also all learn to play fetch with little soft balls." - rosalie hathcock
      • " My animals have trained me very well." - Mary Ippoliti-Smith
