This is my first post/question.
Adopt Me! Bluegrass Pet Rescue is an all-volunteer, growing rescue of all breeds of cats and dogs. Like most, we need more volunteers.
I came up with the idea to take our donated newspapers - which are either opened flat or shredded for our puppy crates - to a local senior center that partners with the neighboring residential differently-abled community. I thought it would be a good way for these populations to help, feel needed and fill a need of our rescue. We are working on finding a dog or cat that we currently foster that could safely come in for the volunteers to meet and pet.
My question is, are there other untapped volunteer resources that other shelters or rescues are using? Our incredible "in-house" volunteers are diligently working on feeding, cleaning, exercising and fostering/adopting. I'm an out of the box thinker, and I'd love to "take the work" to the volunteers if they cannot come to us.
Thank you in advance for any direction.
