    Hello all!

Does anyone have any good and reliable sources of information for dog behaviors and training resources?  I am working on putting together some regular trainings for my staff and want to be able to point people to good sources of information.

    Hi Dallas,

There is the behavior pathway through Maddie's Fund. Behavior 101 and Shelter Care would be my recommendations.

I love this series on dog body language from the ASPCA.

Every dog in Austin has loads of free webinars, which are great.

Susan Garrett's podcast is a great resource. I am particularly partial to this series on emotional reg for shelter dogs.

    Hi Dallas,

As Kathleen mentioned, Maddie's University has our Behavior Learning Path which includes collections of behavior content for shelters, fosters and adopters.  The animal communication & body language and behavior 101 collections might be a good match for what you're looking for.
    Kind Regards,
    Sheila

We have a series of free, 20-minute, interactive courses on ASPCApro. They focus on supporting the behavior of cats and dogs in shelters through everyday interactions. I'm biased, but I think they are nice complements to the Maddie's courses (I love!) and others listed on this thread.

    • How to Communicate Shelter Animal Behavior Clearly
    • How to Encourage Good Behavior in Shelter Dogs
    • How to Interact with Dogs to Minimize Stress
    • Reduce Stress for Cats in Shelters through Sensory Experiences

    Hi Dallas -

If not already familiar with the Fear Free Shelters course, I highly recommend this complimentary course to anyone working with shelter animals.  It provides thorough and eye - opening insights into how we can provide appropriate support by way of understanding how our actions can affect the animals we work with and compliments your desire to create a well-rounded and educated staff.  It's a great resources for volunteers and fosters as well!

Fear Free Happy Homes is another great resource to review - you may find some helpful material for pet owners.
