This is such an interesting perspective of it. I always believed in positive reinforcement while also dealing with play biting through teething toys. Thank you for your input on this. Puppies from around the 6 month mark can be tough to handle but congrats on pulling through!

Subject: Dog food and hyperactive dogs
We adopted a 5 month old blond Shepard mix at the end of March 2019 from a local shelter. He's a beautiful puppy. We were at our wits end after almost 2 months of hyperactivity, jumping and play bitting. Couldn't do anything to stop the play bitting. We first fed him a very expensive dry puppy food. He was eating well but gobbling it so fast he would throw up. He was also scratching him self like crazy. After two large bags we tried a different food. That food gave him really soft stools the majority of the time and he was constantly needing to go. Two weeks ago, I tried Earthbound Holistic regular dry dog food. After a few days we noticed he stopped the crazy jumping, bitting and pooping constantly. We added a enzyme/probiotic chew twice a day. He is now a very relaxed beautiful 7 month old puppy. He still very playful, can accidentally bite while playing with us, but nothing like that constant bitting our hands, feet. He's got a long way to go but now we can easily pet him, brush him and just sit outside without constantly getting jumped on. He's doubled in weight and is 53 pounds. So jumping on us old people is really not something we can endure.
I truly believe that the dog food was the key to this complete turn around. I've had many dogs over the last 45 years but never figured the dog food would cause a dogs bad behavior.
