  • 1.  Emergency situation protocols/SOPs for shelters

    Posted 02-13-2025 07:27 AM

My shelter is working on updating our Standard Operating Procedures for several areas, and it was brought to my attention that we don't have much to cover emergency situations. Does anyone have emergency protocols/SOPs they could share to help us improve our planning? I think it's always useful to see what others are doing and what can be adapted for our own facility! A couple situations specifically that I'd like to see other shelters' plans for include:

    • Fire (big, quick-acting disaster)
    • Flood or weather (big disaster but maybe we have a little more time to evacuate)
    • Active shooter or other physically hostile individual

I appreciate any help getting started!

I found two existing threads related to (but not quite) what I'm looking for:
