Today I would love to share and discuss Sylvester's life as a "feral" community free roaming cat > he has so much to teach all of us about the love they have to share and how we can take care of them. Who else has loved a scared unsocialized cat or how best can we educate others in our own communities??
Sylvester's life wasn't an easy one, however, in the last 11 months of his life he knew only love. Outside for most of his life he was known as a "feral" cat.
March 2023 when his caregiver no longer wanted him, I trapped him and brought him indoors. He was very sick (FIV+, URI, ear tumors, etc...), but I nursed him back to health and gave him his own bedroom. Until the last few weeks he still wasn't too sure of us humans, but I didn't blame him a bit.
A few weeks before he passed when I would sleep in his room he finally relented and snuggled up with me even!!! All those months he was watching, hissing, tolerating attention on occasion and was secretly very grateful to have a safe warm bed, full belly and no reason to fear a human. The picture on his urn furrrever is his last morning with me snuggled up by my head as close as he'd ever been and purring. We knew this was going to be the end of his life in this physical world, we had talked about it, his tumors were taking over, he wasn't eating much and he was ready.
Sylvester loved me and he knew a human had finally loved him. Please be kind to free roaming, community, unsocialized cats outside..... they too deserve only love. RIP in Peace my little dude. Thank you Chewy for helping me tell Sylvester's story with this beautiful portrait.
