Hi everyone! I'm a volunteer with Many Paws Global Rescue, a small animal rescue, and I'm hoping to learn from all of you here.
We're currently working on putting together a fundraiser, and because we're a small rescue without major funders or a large financial backing, we're trying to figure out how to build some sustainable fundraising streams and get the ball rolling.
One of our immediate goals is getting local businesses to donate in-kind items for our fundraiser - gift baskets, gift cards, products, services, experiences, pet-related items, or anything else that could be used for a raffle or auction.
For those of you who have successfully gotten businesses to donate, what has worked best for you? Do you approach businesses in person, email them, send a formal donation request letter, offer social media recognition, provide a tax-deductible donation letter, or use another approach?
I'd also love advice on the bigger picture. What fundraising or revenue streams have actually worked for other small rescues? Monthly donors, business sponsorships, grants, recurring campaigns, merchandise, events, adoption sponsorships, corporate partnerships, or something completely different?
We're willing to put in the work - we just don't have the benefit of major donors or established funding sources, so we're looking for practical ways to grow.
If you've helped a small rescue build its fundraising program from the ground up, what would you focus on first? I'd be incredibly grateful for any advice, successful strategies, templates, or lessons you've learned along the way.
    Thank you! 🐾❤️
