    Posted 08-19-2024 09:12 AM

Hello all! We finally got our non-profit status after months and months of waiting here at The Cozy Catfe Rescue in Arlington, TX! So excited!

We are all new to this so we have a lot of questions about how we can fundraise and apply for grants! Any suggestions or tips? Places to apply for other grants?

We are going to partner with a local restaurant soon and part of the proceeds will go to our rescue. Looking for some other ideas you have tried. Thank you !!

Briana, congratulations! What an exciting time!

My best advice if you don't have a ton of grantwriting experience, is to take a class before you apply for any grants. There are so many great orgs out there that give low cost and free webinars, it's hard to choose just one. I do like the Grantsmanship Center,  and I also listen to the Nonprofit Nation podcast, which shares tons of resources.

Partnering with your local restaurant is a great way to kick off your local fundraising efforts! Are there other groups you can partner with on pet-centric events like maybe a rescue festival? A really cool company called That Fish Place - That Pet Place does some fantastic events, check out their Facebook events page for ideas.

Can't wait to find out what works for you!

    Congratulations!

I didn't have such good luck with grants as a newbie because they usually like to see history and numbers. Specially the national ones.
Start local. Look for local/city foundations that give to animal welfare.  Have a business plan ready. Most grantors like to see what you have already accomplished.

Sign up for PETCO Love and keep up with their requirements and grant opportunity lists.

Fundraiser the old school way, setting up at local markets, events and the community.
