Has anyone had experience with using the paid subscription to the grantwatch.com site for grant searches?  If so, did you find it worth the cost?

I had better luck with local grants and National Animal Welfare grants.  There are too many to offered and to apply to, so I have not paid to join.  Local Community Foundations and orgs helped us more.  I found they start smaller then gave more after we fulfilled our required follow up (over the years).  You can google animal welfare grants and look by state, or national.  I think a lot of the same info comes up -but is specific to your needs.  You can google your needs + grants and get info, as well.  That is just my opinion- but after 5 years- I was able to bring in $50,000 in grants last year plus a building addition that was worth $150,000- that is how I started and build on to work up to that.  I hope that helps.  Networking also helps (if you know other successful orgs and visit, talk to them).

Membership to our local Center for Nonprofit Management (Nashville) comes with a subscription to GrantStation.com - I just used it for the first time last week and found SO MANY grants / foundations that I had no idea existed. They are really good at giving the essential details so you can decide to pursue a certain grant any further, and they also have a system for tracking your grants as you go. Not sure how much a regular subscription costs, as ours is free. But definitely worthwhile!

I purchased a subscription to Grant Station through Techsoup.org and I have found it useful.    Techsoup.org offers discounted software and hardware to non-profits.  Check it out if you haven't.
