Hi Elkie, Life of Kai is a small nonprofit and we are not a rescue but we share the goal of so many organizations who believe in prevention - keep pets home with their people. For this 4th of July which will be a nightmare with the celebration of our 250th anniversary, we are thinking of making chip readers available for our community and would love to know how to secure a scanning station from vandalism. We download HASS guide on chip reader and wonder if there is such a thing as cut-resistant cable. Thank you for the inspiration.

Subject: How are your Community Microchip Scanners Working?
Hi Cheryl,
Many shelters have placed scanners in their communities either as stand alone scanning stations or within partner locations (i.e. fire stations, pet stores, libraries, etc.). All in attempt to make it more convenient for the community to reunite families without the animals having to go to the shelter. Since this effort seems to be growing, we thought we would reach out to see what success, challenges, etc. are the participating shelters seeing in their communities with this type of program. If you would like to talk further or would like to learn more, I am happy to direct you to some shelters that have implemented this type of community support.

We do not, but what exactly is this program? We are always offering to have people bring found animals in to be scanned but very few take us up on the offer.
