  • 1.  How challenging is it for you to share this foster data?

    Posted 11-21-2022 05:19 AM

    Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to ask about foster data in a a survey, in a way that is easy to respond to, and i'm hoping you can help.

What shelter software do you use and how easy or difficult would it be to share:

    1.  Number of dogs (or cats) who went out to foster during a calendar year (e.g. 2021)
    2. Number of dogs (or cats) currently in foster care
    3. Number of dogs (or cats) in foster care during a specific month/year (e.g., April 2021)
    4. Percentage of dogs (or cats) currently in your org's custody and locate in foster care

    Ty!

We use Shelterluv and our Animal Counts report shows how many animals are in foster for the dates used to pull each report. The only thing it doesn't differentiate is the FTA. The FTA's are lumped in the number of animals in the shelter. We are not a huge shelter so that's not a big problem for us. It would be nice to have a way to pull a report that separates FTA from the rest. If someone has figured that out I would be interested.

    Hi Shelia,

These are all numbers that we pull and report to our board. We even do this monthly and I break down the numbers even more (puppies/kittens in foster on a monthly basis and yearly, new foster homes vs previously trained foster homes (yearly stat), and total nights spent in foster (yearly stat). We use PetPoint and can gather all of our info by running different reports using this software.

We also use ShelterLuv. I'm still learning all of the different ways to pull reports, but I think you could definitely get this information. You can probably create a custom report to easily get the information on a regular basis. One issue I've run into is the accuracy the data that we have in ShelterLuv. What you get out is only as good as you put in, and with all volunteers, there can be issues.

I'm a volunteer data administrator for Big Bones Canine Rescue in northern Colorado. We use AnimalsFirst and the first question would be under a pre-built report, easy. Questions 2, 3, and 4 would be a filter and date range in Animals In Care, super easy! Here's an example using two filters, Location and Status:
