    Hello everyone,
It is freezing here in Northern Nevada, and just like every winter, my heart breaks for the outdoor animals.

I wanted to do my part to help keep many Feral Cats warm this winter.
I came up with very simple yet warm cat shelter, and called upon the public to get involved and help build them ( which was a huge hit)!
    You will need:
-27-gallon storage totes with a lid
    -R-Tech 1/2 in insulation sheets
    -bale of straw
I created a video on YouTube and posted the link below for instructions on how to make them.

Because I have a 501 C3 nonprofit, I went around to our local Home Depot and Lowe's with the correct paperwork, and I asked if they would be willing to make a donation for the products that I needed. All products were donated to me so there was very little out of pocket cost.

I then created a Facebook event and invited anybody who wanted to help build all of these shelters together. I had a great turnout and we were able to make 28 shelters in about two hours.
it is so amazing and so heartwarming to see the community come together and want to help the animals.

I hope this inspires other people and other communities to do the same.

I have been getting a lot of feedback from feral Cat colony caregivers that the cats have been using the shelters.

We are having these exact same feral cat homes built, but are having a Girl Scout group do it for us.  They were looking for a project and we needed some built. The girls are in charge of getting all of the materials and building the homes. We'll then give them to our cat colony caretakers.

Many people get medications or food delivered in those large Styrofoam containers and we've had great luck in asking for them on our facebook page. It  helps to give them dimensions as some are too small, but it's been a very successful program here in Southern Indiana.  We have volunteers assemble them and then post that they are available for pick up and usually they are all gone that day.  Great job on the video!
