    Hi Everyone! 👋 My name is Erin Tabor, I'm the Industry Engagement Coordinator for Human Animal Support Services (HASS). 

    If you are looking for another way to connect with your amazing fellow animal welfare professional peers, I invite you to check out the HASS Job-Alikes:

    Details: HASS Job-Alike Groups provide colleagues with similar roles and responsibilities the opportunity to discuss common issues, ask questions, determine best practices, and share program ideas. These groups are collaborative sessions that allow participants to share resources and develop relationships across different settings/roles!

    Frequency: Monthly 

    Attendance requirements:  None! Register once and attend any in the future when able

    Serious question: no snark intended. Industry Engagement Coordinator!? Wow, I bet that gets blank stares at the local pub. Or it's just me. Could you please explain your title? Has animal rescue turned into an industry? Or do you recruit factory workers? Any other obscure titles happening at HASS or elsewhere in this field?  Definition of industry: economic activity concerned with the processing of raw materials and manufacture of goods in factories.

    Alternate definition of industry: an activity or domain in which a great deal of time or effort is expended. The nonprofit field as a whole can be referred to as an industry, this word is not reserved for factory workers.

    Similar to "no offense, but..." followed by something offensive, your saying "no snark intended" does not take away from the glaringly snarky message after. You can ask someone what their job entails without also patronizing them. Having opportunities to connect with others in animal welfare has been incredibly beneficial and rewarding for me and I am grateful for organizations like HASS and Maddie's who ensure these opportunities are available.

    Z Peoples is absolutely right, our use of the word industry refers to the field of animal welfare and all of those who work in it (in any capacity)! I totally get that job titles and jargon can get confusing when we aren't all using the same language. 

    I think what's important to focus on is the fact that no matter your job title, we are all working towards the same goal of helping pets and their people! And I, through the HASS Job-Alikes and other programs, am working in this position to engage all of you amazing animal welfare folks with our project, and create spaces to learn from your peers and collaborate to help achieve this overarching goal!
