    Hi Everyone,

I oversee our longstanding Community Cat Program, our Wildlife Intake Center, and all of Field Services. We have every version of a trap you can think of and I feel like we have gone through many iterations of trap labels. I would really love to see what everyone else is doing that is 1) visible and clear 2) holding up well to usage and wear/tear 3) easy for tracking and trap maintenance purposes. We have used paint as well as various laminated tags, metal tags, etc. I am hoping to get some insights into products other agencies are using and would really love photo examples!! Thank you for your support!

    With gratitude, Jenn

We've spray-painted the bottom of the trap with our name and then also tightly zip-tied laminated tags with our org name and contact info and a little disclaimer that these traps are government property that are being watched by security cameras and we will pursue theft charges.

Hi Jennifer. We used a handheld engraver tool to label our traps. Might be worth a look. I believe we purchased it from Grainer.

I used a dremel tool purchased for around $25 to engrave our traps with our name and number and it seems to work well. We used tags and permanent marker but that did not work as we have had traps disappear. I wrote a grant to our local Rotary club to help us purchase some good traps and the Dremel tool

    Hi Jennifer!

I've seen a few iterations of labels as well! My favorite two options have been: 1) laser engraved stainless steel data plates (very expensive). I had these made for our project in Kuwait, and they survived extremely harsh conditions and out-lived the traps. 2) National Band and Tag Company. You can custom make these in any size and with any text. I would recommend a QR code to more information, a phone number, agency name, "HUMANE ANIMAL RESCUE, PLEASE DO NOT TAMPER"  and a unique asset number. The bigger the program, the more important it is to have a unique number on each trap so that a unique animal ID can be generated in the field and tied to location data. (https://www.nationalband.com/industrial-and-commercial-tags/metal-asset-tags/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAhbi8BhDIARIsAJLOlucyflZglQix0Xyj50htmky8fsWtaYFk7thVwA4o-ou2EMNueUFS0OgaAnm4EALw_wcB) I had 1,500 of these made for a project once, and I worked with Dr. Levy from UF on the design.

Finally, I'd suggest that you rivet the data plates onto your traps. This can be a real had workout if you have a lot of traps. If you have a large volume of assets, consider a battery powered rivet machine such as this. Rivets are smooth enough on the bottom not to risk animal injury and they last. You'll need two per tag, and you'll need the correct sized drill bit. Make sure to leave space in your tag design for the rivets.

Of course I know you recently purchased some traps from Humane Innovations, and I hope this info helps you protect all of your life-saving assets! Happy trapping.
