Several years ago, we came into a large donation of assorted china. I was able to put together enough tea cups, plates and tea pots to serve 100. We held a Spring Tea at a historical museum in the city where our shelter is located. We served a traditional afternoon tea on fine linens, flower arrangements, etc. I relied on volunteers with catering experience to make the finger sandwiches. The various "sweets" were purchased at Sam's club or Costco. It is the first event I have planned where the tickets sold out in advance and the shelter has been getting calls about when we plan to do it again. Why it worked ? Having the donations of the china and perhaps a donor base who liked this theme.
