Looking for advocates to review our free shelter support kit

My nonprofit organization (Wagtown.org) developed a shelter support kit. The Tucker to the Rescue Shelter Marketing Support Kit is comprised of a vision workbook, campaign worksheets, PR success kit, social media tips guide, and other templates. My background before Wagtown was 30+ years in marketing (ad agency owner, etc.), so it is a compilation of guidance gathered over the years.

The materials are provided free to any animal advocates. It's been in circulation for a couple of years and needs to be reviewed to identify gaps in resources. I'd love to have some innovators and advocates take a look and advise me on updates. Please comment below if you are willing to help. My goal is to have it fine-tuned by those with boots on the ground and innovators.

I've attached the most recent working doc. I left it as is to show the original content. Thanks for considering it (and keep wagging)!

    Beth

    Hi Tracy,
I'm so happy to hear from you. It is so important to me to incorporate feedback from those "in the trenches" on a regular basis. The original release was launched a few years ago, so times have changed and so have opportunities to make an impact.

Please tell me the most ideal way for you to get involved. I'd like to bring you in but want to be sure it fits in your schedule and scope.

    Again, thank you!

    Keep wagging,

    Beth

Beth - thanks for sharing ideas. I read the attachment and posted feedback. The playbook has great content and good branding for both Wagtown and the Tucker program. The TOC provided a good roadmap; however, because the content reflects years of practical experience, I was looking for checklists to support the content and a summary to ease the reader into the story. I hope the thoughts help. One big point is to leverage Tucker and I suggested an updated idea based on Tucker's great book/story.

    Hi Peter,
Thanks so much for taking a look at the materials and book. I love all of your suggestions. One problem is that I am a one-person nonprofit and do not have the scope to move forward with the other components of the project. The curriculum itself is the main product and the book is a support to reach young children with early reading materials for libraries, daycare, schools, as well as shelters.

For clarification, when you referred to TOC, do you mean table of contents?

Do you know of any financial and operational resources that would help me extend the reach to its full capacity? I am definitely open to collaboration, but cannot provide the financial support or operational scope to make it really sail.

Thank you again so much. Your input is very powerful. I hope that we can find a way to make it happen – particularly when I hope to release additional materials.

    Keep wagging,

    Beth

    Hi Beth!

I'm an Instructional Designer and can tell how much work went into this resource! I second @Peter Buck's notes on usability for the reader. There's also some visual design tips changes that can really help as well. I would be happy to help give your guide some love, ahem curriculum design support pro bono if you're interested.

    Hi Beth,

I am so excited that you are the creator of Tucker children's book. I purchased it last year for the humane education program of my nonprofit. The goal of the program is to teach empathy and compassion to young children through animal stories.  I wanted to add books about "pit bulls" to my curriculum and was ecstatic to find your book. I searched the internet and only found 3 including yours. I would appreciate it if you could recommend other titles in which the main character is a pitty. In addition to the humane education, I plan to launch a free Lending Library for kids and carry books about being kind to animals. Would it be possible for us to get free copies of your book? Your support kit is fantastic. TIA for your advice.

    Hi Julilana,
Thank you so much for the kind note! I am always excited to hear about the use of the book to help shape young minds and, hopefully, make its way home to living rooms as well.
Unfortunately, I cannot afford to send books to organizations at no cost. I make no money off of them and have to put everything I make back into getting more books out there. I did have a relationship with an organization that provided books as a part of their outreach program. In that case, they purchased 300 of them to give away to children at their events. That was corporate money and put under their marketing budget. Do you have any connections with  Animal advocates who might underwrite getting set of books over to you? That is my fondest dream but I have quite literally nothing to spare. I have not taken income since 2016 in order to prioritize the mission of Wagtown. Please please please let me know if you find a way to get more Tucker books into the places where they are most needed.

My nonprofit is hosting an event in October called the dog friendly summit. I hope to find a "book sponsor" to help. If that should happen, it will be a win for all of us – especially the dogs.

Thank you so much again for purchasing the book and sharing the story. I really appreciate it. I only wish that I could help more.

That being said, I do have a free curriculum that is available through PBS learning media anywhere in the world. It does include a reading by me. Let me know if that would be helpful to you to supplement education resources. It is a weeklong program and includes extension activities and take home materials.

    Keep wagging,

    Beth

    Hi Beth,

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I understand your position. I love to have access to the PBS learning media and a reading by you would supplement our resources. Can I sign up for that since it is free?

I am also in the process of creating a couple of books focusing on fostering. There are plenty of children books on adoption. Would you be able to give me some advice or tips on how to tackle this and how much will it cost especially if I need to find an illustrator.

Thank you for everything you do.

    Hi Beth,

I skimmed your kit and downloaded the attachment so I could read it fully when I have more time.  You can easily see how much work you put into it. We are not a dog rescue but we do adopt out small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. I think many of the principals in your support kit can be applied to other animals as well.  I look forward to reading through the kit.
