  • 1.  Losing Facility Lease

Our rescue was created in 2021. In Feb 2022, we leased a location for our rescue to operate out of. Its roughly 2000 sqft, currently houses 8 dogs (5 of which are large, hard to adopt dogs) and roughly 20 cats/kittens. We have around 50 cats/kittens in foster and 2 dogs in foster (one is a hospice).

We were just informed our lease will not be renewed and we will need to be out of the bldg and repairs accomplished by end of year. We had started a savings account for a new building, but only have $10k in it.  Like everywhere, prices have climbed and the cheapest purchase price for anything that would work is currently $230k and rent is $1900 (currently pay $1400).

What are some grant or loan options that we might be able to use? We are in Warner Robins, GA. It has a large population (I believe 90k) but a lot of low-income families. We started a fundraiser to try to get funds but so far, have only raised $2k. There's no way we will get to the $50k needed for a down payment on a purchase before October without coming up with some other funding source.

We've stopped intakes and are focusing on adopting out as many animals as possible. The dogs being the biggest worry as we don't have any large dog fosters.  Its also election year, so there is likely to be a change in board members in December timeframe.

Needless to say, we are exploring all our options to include potentially returning to a foster based model until we can find a way to get a down payment for a purchase.  Open and looking for all constructive advise or what y'all did if your organization has had something similar happen.

Since you have a nice size community, I would go all in on getting the word out to media outlets and local folks with large social media followers.

See if you can tug on the heartstrings of local news people who have a soft place for animals. Even small donations can add up.

    Best of luck to you!
