Hello everyone,
We're facing a new challenge with microchip registrations that I'm hoping someone here might have insights on.
We intake many animals from the Hillsborough County Animal Shelter. Our standard process has been to register the pet's microchip with FreePetChipRegistry once the animal is adopted. However, in the past few months, our registrations have consistently failed with the error: "Chip already associated with an existing pet and owner."
From what we can tell, it seems the county shelter has recently started registering the microchip themselves at the point when we take possession of the animal. Previously, they didn't register the chip, which allowed us to handle it without issues after an adoption.
Has anyone else encountered this with their local shelters? I'd appreciate any advice on resolving this conflict or a way to bypass the issue so we can ensure proper microchip registration for our adopted animals.
Note: Our key people have too much on their plate already, so I'm pursuing potential solutions on my own. I'm sure that they have contacts at the shelter and if they find the time they will reach out. I am relatively new to the organization and I wouldn't know who to contact at the shelter, so I am forgoing that option.
