Thank you SO much! we were putting them in an organizer on index cards. Our pod area where we put the kennel cards the sleeves, we have the tags will not fit. I wanted to see if anyone had ideas or if someone was doing something we could do as well. Thank you so much for your input!

Our shelter sends the microchip tag home at the time of adoption. While in the shelter, the tag is taped to the pet's kennel card and placed in a sheet protector. During adoption, we pull the pet's packet and make sure to tape the tag to our microchip info sheet that all adopters receive.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to gather insight on best practices regarding microchip tags at adoption. We're evaluating our current process and would love to know what works well for other organizations.
Do you keep the microchip tags on-site, or do you send them home with adopters at the time of adoption?
If you hold them until adoption, how do you ensure the correct tag stays with the pet's paperwork and doesn't get separated?
Has anyone transitioned away from sending physical tags altogether? If so, how has that worked?
We're trying to determine the most efficient and foolproof system that minimizes errors while still providing adopters with everything they need. I'd really appreciate hearing what systems, safeguards, or workflows have been successful for you.
Thank you in advance for sharing what works (and what doesn't)!
