July 31st is National Mutt Day! Aside from the many benefits of adopting a mutt from your local animal shelter, it is an active way to not support puppy mills.

Humane Action Pittsburgh (HAP) has been working against puppy mills for nearly a decade. In 2015, we drafted and initiated the passing of two groundbreaking ordinances in Pittsburgh. One that bans the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits not from an animal shelter within Pittsburgh limits, and one requires licensed breeders and kennels to disclose kennel information advertisements. These laws help to ensure that animals adopted within Pittsburgh have been sourced responsibly and ethically. Furthermore, HAP has helped several municipalities in the greater Pittsburgh area pass similar laws in their communities.

If you would like to know more about HAP's actions to support local shelters and fight against puppy mills, or receive assistance in doing similar actions in your community, please feel free to reach out at info@humaneactionpittsburgh.org
