Hi everyone. We talk a lot about physical rehab, but what about severe emotional trauma?
Kimber came to Boo's Crew after her owner passed away. She was entirely shut down, depressed, and refusing to eat. In a traditional kennel, she likely would have deteriorated fast. Because our 501(c)(3) operates as an intensive, home-based rescue model, we provided round-the-clock behavioral support. My personal dogs stepped in as helpers, teaching her it was safe to trust again.
Kimber slowly recovered and found her perfect adoptive home. Her case highlights why shelter-diversion matrices are so vital for dogs that cannot handle standard kennel infrastructure. I wrote this poem to honor her journey.
Kimber's Tribute
You came to us in a bad way,
Lost your person, one tragic day.
Sad and depressed, no will to live,
Your heart still had much love to give.
Surrounded you with love and pups,
Encouraged you to not give up.
You learned that others help so much,
Learned to like the softest touch.
Starting to eat, starting to play,
You learned that love never goes away!
It lifts you up and lights your way,
When all is lost and dark that day.
Now there is hope for someone new,
To share a life of love with you.
So sweet Kimber, our work is done,
Now is your time to have someone!
