    Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm Noah and I am the Animal Control Officer for The City of Palacios in South Texas. I have an extensive background in shelter management/medicine, day practice and emergency medicine for animals. I started here in December and have slowly been making positive changes, however our facility is very small and not conducive to the future of what we have in mind as the building was a throw together after hurricane Harvey several years ago. We are having a very difficult time finding grants or any funding to help us even begin the process of having a new facility that suites our community needs for educational classes, an actual adoption area, and even being able to hold cool fundraising evets at the facility. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a one man show as far as enforcement goes and seems to be a 24/7 job in our small town and its just myself and our HR/Grant director to work on these things.

    Hey Noah!

Wowzers I'm super impressed by all that you're working on for your community. That's awesome!

I don't know specifically for facilities, but for grants, here's a few spots I know offer various animal welfare grants. You may have looked into these, but just in case: Petco Love Lost, Best Friends Animal Society, HASS (Human Animal Support Services), The Bissell Foundation, PetSmart Charities, ASPCA, HumanePro, Pedigree Foundation, NACA (National Animal Care & Control Association), Banfield Foundation, Lowe's Hometown Grants, & Walmart Charities.

Additionally, not sure if Texas has this, but we have grants through Florida through the sale pet-themed license plates, so we receive grants through them occasionally. Lastly, I recommend checking with your local tax collector office. Our county collector here, chooses a different municipality or nonprofit each quarter to include in their tax collection letter that's mailed to citizens. We received $9K through that alone just last quarter.

Best wishes as you continue to pursue improving your facility to take care of the pets in your community!

    Hi Noah,

Candid is a great resource for grant writing and they have a foundation directory at https://fconline.foundationcenter.org./

I would also do a search for local and neighboring area community foundations which will give grants to organizations within their corresponding geographic areas.

Treat also lists grants. They're list is listed at https://www.treatva.com/grants.

Best of luck with your work!

    Hello Noah,

We are a small rural rescue with no Animal Control or any other options in the area of our shelter in rural Georgia. We do have a partnership with volunteers in NJ, who through a non profit transport airplane transport or large van once a month brings dogs up and we foster and volunteer at local stores that support us having adoption events. Walmart has been great and if you search the nearest to you, we have four stores, for each Walmart you can apply three times a years depending on the dates. I believe the next round just started.

There is also Shareway. There is a free version and even that has five grants show up however I use the upgraded package and  i search for in kind donations for our fundraising events. There is a version for grants.

Like another participant said, you local resources might be there but you have to search for them. I was searching Georgia in many ways and after looking at several  grants excluding our region, I happily found a site for only Central Georgia. That is where we found two grants only for Central Georgia and we applied but have not heard the results yet. In my search, Texas came up a lot but it's narrowing it down to your specific needs. You are helping your community and I am guessing many communities as I looked up your area and you have the struggles as we do being rural. Good luck and this is a great forum. If you search your topic other ways, for example rural shelter excluded from grants , then you might find a thread of discussions leading you to other sites and ideas here.

Good Luck and I appreciate you helping these animals in need. Your situation is a lot like our own with a CEO working 24 hours a day to take care of abandoned, abused and unwanted dogs but he has at least a group of volunteers helping to find financing.
