Hello, Maddie's Community!
I wanted to let you know about the virtual field trips that we host at Catskill Animal Sanctuary, which bring our rescued animals on screen and into classrooms nationwide. We are currently partnering with groups such as the Mayor's Office of Food Policy in NYC to offer free educational programs to school districts there. While we love to host programs in person, of course, our hope is to utilize our virtual programs to provide access to schools and students who may be underfunded or who may not have the ability to take an in-person field trip to a local shelter, rescue, or sanctuary. So, we hope to make humane education more accessible to everyone, regardless of physical location.
Here at CAS, we're a team of teachers ourselves, and we are really proud of our established virtual programs. We've already worked with schools and groups to bring our animals on screen and into classrooms all around the country and to thousands of students and teachers. Our lesson plans meet many of the NYS standards, ranging from several science standards, to the required humane education standards in elementary schools, but we are also developing food lessons which will satisfy many of the standards outlined by NYS for food and nutrition, family and consumer sciences, as well as health courses. We are able to customize lessons to meet any school's needs, and our lessons are interactive and fun for students and teachers alike!
We are really proud of this humane education initiative, and we'd love to partner with other shelters or rescues to bring these virtual programs to even more humans.
