Hi everyone! Pennsylvania is taking steps to ensure that people will get to remain with their pet's remains forever. Unfortunately, there was an instance where someone was disposing of pets' bodies and returning ashes from somewhere else to the owners. Thankfully, this has prompted both a House (HB1750) and Senate (SB950) version of the Companion Animal Cremation Consumer Protection Act, which would establish transparency and accountability in pet cremation services by requiring providers to establish chain-of-custody protocols, retain their records, and comply with health and safety standards. Furthermore, this bill would allow prosecutors to issue fines or revoke certification over breaches of standards.
If you'd like to help end companion animal cruelty, you can join Humane Action Pennsylvania's Ending Companion Animal Cruelty Coalition (ECACC). We are constantly working to improve the lives of companion animals and would love for you to join us in our mission!
