    Posted 02-07-2025 12:56 PM

Good afternoon, I am looking for more reputable adoption sites to list our available pets. We use Adoptapet and Petfinder. We have been issues with Petfinder as it keeps going down and it is becoming more trouble some to work with.  Has anyone used RescueMe?  Any feedback? We need to be able to list in the Pacific NW and East Coast.

    Thanks all so much!

One of the many really good reasons to use Rescue Groups software as a management tool is that you click a button on the pet record, and it pushes out the picture, videos, and description far and wide (including Petfinder and AdoptaPet -- but over 200 other places).  Upon adoption, you connect the pet record to the adopter's record, and it registers the microchip and also updates the pet listing as adopted.   I haven't had to think about manually listing dogs in many years, thanks to Rescue Groups -- it's very affordable for even the smallest of rescues (it's non-profit).  It's also great to track the medical records and handle reminders for check-ups, vax, parasite prevention, etc.  (I can set it to send me the alert, and then forward it to the foster home-- or send it directly to the foster; you can also set the permissions so that trusted foster volunteers can upload pics, write adoption bios, update care records etc. with just a little bit of training).

The adoption listing side of the software is free, but it's worth paying the (small) annual fee for the Data Management Service -- it's incredibly useful (it does a lot of what Pet Point does, but without hooking you into the horrible 24PW ecosystem)

I learned about it from our Datamars/PetLink microchip rep, and it was such a good tip -- https://rescuegroups.org.

If you are considering software options, include AnimalsFirst in your review. With AnimalsFirst, you can post animals on your website immediately when made "available" and also automatically upload your animals to Adopt a Pet and Petfinder. Plus there are loads of other time-saving efficiencies like a type-ahead search tool, Google Maps integration, and batch completion of medical tasks. The Adopter Portal ensure thats adopters always have access to their pets adoption documents and medical records,. Plus the Foster Portal is ideal for foster-based rescue organizations and shelters with foster programs, as it empowers your foster caregivers to view and edit animal records, communicate with your team, upload photos, add video links, and write bios. You can even assign permissions for foster parents to review and approve adoption requests. With the mobile checkout process, you can expedite adoptions at meet-and-greets and other offsite adoption events. You can learn more and request a tour of the software and the accompanying Adopter and Foster Portals at https://animalsfirst.com/.

We have used rescuegroups.org for years for our website management.  We don't use all the other features they have but the money spent is worth every penny compared to the time it takes to managed multiple postings on all the other rescue sites. If you use the other features it is even worth more.

We also use Rescue Groups and have for years. We only use their free service to manage our online pet listings. It saves so much time only having to enter the animals' information once and have it automatically pushed to so many adoption sites, plus our own site via the API.

We've had a great experience using RescueMe-it's easy to use and has a solid reach, especially for specific breeds and regions. Unlike Petfinder, which can be unreliable at times, RescueMe tends to stay consistent and allows adopters to search based on location, which might help with your Pacific NW and East Coast listings.

Another option worth exploring is Rehome by Adoptapet, which gives you more control over the process. At Mini Bernedoodle Hub, we've looked into various adoption platforms and networking strategies to help connect the right pets with the right families. If you're open to trying new options, we're happy to share insights.
