What program is the best and inexpensive to keep track of Microchips in house?  What chips are mostly used by other rescues?

We use 911 Pet Chips because they come preregistered to our shelter.  They cost about $8.30 per chip and never charge the adopter for registering or making changes - no monthly subscription either.  Use the promo code "nonprofit" to receive this price.

I use a Goggle spreadsheet to enter the chip #, animal name, shelter number, adopter name, phone #, address, date of adoption and cat or dog.  It can be easily sorted into numerical order for easy reference.

24 PetWatch chips register automatically and for free through PetPoint (which is free) Pet owners receive complimentary updates to their contact info for the life of the pet.

24 PetWatch chips also register for free through Chameleon and Clinic HQ.

We use Michaelson Found Animals. It's about $5 per chip ordered in bulk. We use Shelterluv so microchips are automatically updated every night. In the past we used to use the Found Animals Registry which was free.

I'm not sure you will see this because this question / answer were from SO long ago!! But we use ShelterLuv and hooked it up to the API to automatically register with 24 PetWatch every day...

Two of our adopted kitties were surrendered recently though, and the spay/neuter clinic was contacted instead of us.

Do you happen to know if ShelterLuv and the API remove microchip info of the pets in the system once they are adopted?

I'm also reaching out to SL on this, just figured I'd try here first!!

For our rescue, we've had a great experience using Fi Nano microchips. They've been a very practical option for a volunteer-based rescue like ours because they balance cost, ease of use, and reliability. They're inexpensive, universally scannable, and include free lifetime registration, which is a huge plus when you're managing a lot of dogs and working within a tight budget.

For adopters, Fi Nano also provides peace of mind. Once the chip is registered, there are no ongoing fees, and if a dog ever gets lost, most shelters or vets can scan it and pull up the owner's information. We always remind adopters to still keep a collar and tags on their dogs, keep their contact info updated, and remember that a microchip is not a GPS tracker, but an important backup form of ID.

We've used Fi Nano too and had a pretty similar experience. The lifetime registration alone saved us a ton of stress because we didn't have to chase adopters later to finish the paperwork or pay extra fees. Everything stayed consistent and easy to manage, which matters a lot when you've got multiple intakes happening at once.

The universal scanning part has been huge. We had a couple of dogs picked up by different shelters in our area and both places pulled the info immediately. It's not flashy tech, but it works and keeps things simple.
