  • 1.  Questions about how to get grants for new facilities

    Posted 08-20-2025 10:38 PM
    Hello,
My name is Scarlett Hancock, and I serve as the Animal Control Officer for the City of Electra, Texas. I have held this position since December 2024. Since I started, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges our animals face due to our current inadequate facility.
At present, we only have five outdoor kennels located near a sewage plant. In the summer, temperatures inside these kennels often exceed 100 degrees, while in the winter the animals are left exposed to freezing conditions. Unfortunately, our small community does not have the budget to build the proper facility our animals so desperately need.
The City of Electra has already acquired property and purchased a building for this purpose, but significant funding is still required to lay the foundation and make the building suitable for housing and caring for both dogs and cats. To help move this project forward, we are hosting a fundraiser on September 6, 2025, with the goal of raising $50,000 toward construction costs.
I am reaching out to kindly request any information or guidance you may be able to provide regarding grants or funding opportunities that could support this project. Your assistance would be instrumental in improving the welfare of animals in our community and ensuring they receive the care and shelter they deserve.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

If you're not a Best Friends Network Partner, you might want to look into that. Their grant cycle just opened and they are looking to support unique efforts around saving as many lives as possible. I would think that something like this would be a good proposition!

Hello, my organization is in the same shoes. You should write a letter to MuttNation (Miranda Lambert). Another is the Good Use Program by SouthFace Institute. If you already have a building/shelter they aim to help improve the efficiency of the facility so you can redirect the cost savings to your mission. You can also look into applying for general operating financial support as usually utility bills qualify and that would help cover that cost while using the money your organization saved for construction projects.
