  • 1.  Recommended Grant Application Webinars/Coaching Programs?

    Posted 05-27-2025 07:51 AM

    Hi all!

My team recently attended a coaching session for grant applications and we will be discussing the takeaways in our next meeting. I am curious if anyone has any recommendations for webinars, lectures, or anything to help increase our success/provide useful tips when applying for grants! Thanks so much in advance.

I have found the HelloSkip grant vault questions useful (that is a referral link where I receive credit - even for free account signups).  I took the vault questions and discussed them with ChatGPT, which seems to be a better AI than the site's AI.

The free training at https://learning.candid.org has also been very useful.  I took Introduction to Proposal Writing, Crafting Compelling Grant Proposals and Creating a Sound Proposal Budget.

    Hi Diana!

Other than using the grant vault questions tool, have you used Skip to apply for any grants/have you received any (if you don't mind me asking!)? The tool itself looks amazing. I run a very small dog rescue and am responsible for just about everything, so the potential to have Skip apply for grants for me is intriguing.

@Meredith Evens  No, I have not received any grants via Hello Skip yet.  I do not qualify for most of the external grant offers because we are less than a year old and do not have the revenue.  However, I have been introduced to several opportunities that I would not have known existed otherwise - with no application fees.  I have a list of one grant application a week for the next six weeks that I am waiting to hear the results from.  Although I had selected the apply for me feature, I have since turned it off.  Many of the companies have questions that do not quite fit exactly what the vault offers.  But, having the vault question pre-filled has greatly reduced the amount of time it takes for me to apply to any other opportunity I've found.

Half of the Instant Grant winners each week are for credits for the Hello Skip offers.  Many of the participants say they have been there for a year without receiving any thing.  But, I do find it encouraging to see so many people every week receiving a gift of some sort.  I have upgraded my membership to Plus.  This opens up additional vault questions and allows participation in the larger opportunities (a $10k offer each quarter).  I thought it also included the business plan, but I was wrong on that.

I hope this answers your questions.  Let me know if you have more! :)

    Hi @Jenn Brown!

I've listed some additional resources below. But first, I wanted to share something I wish I knew right from the get go, which is that only about 10% of U.S. grantmaking foundations have websites. So other methods of research are needed to find potential funders. There are free and paid databases, and foundation 990-PFs, but relationship-building is key to learning about (and getting) opportunities.

    - Diana already mentioned candid.org for the extensive training resources. It has other tools you likely know about:
    GuideStar
    Foundation Directory Online
    Datasets and reports

    - Foundant's primary focus is on technology (software) for grantseekers and grantmakers, but they also offer a wealth of grant resources. I recommend their on-demand webinars: Foundant resources

    - DH Leonard Consulting & Grant Writing Services is a great resource. I recommend signing up for their newsletter to stay informed about upcoming training opportunities and new resources.

    - Learn Grant Writing is a great online grant writing training resource.

    - GrantStation.com requires a paid membership ($699/year) to access the database of grant opportunities, but discounts are occasionally offered. They also offer resources such as online training, a blog, and a newsletter.

    - https://grantprofessionals.org has mostly paid tools (for members), but some free resources too.

    - I wish I could try Grant Assistant, an AI grant writing tool from FreeWill. It looks super impressive...but I think the starting cost is north of $16K a year. Ouch.

Good luck! And please let us know if you find any fantastic resources.
