Animal Welfare Professionals

While we offer every resource possible for families so they can have additional possible ways to keep their pet with them, we know not every family will be able to. We are hoping to add an additional program that can let the family also rehome their pet on their own with resources and minimal assistance  still provided from our organization. 

I am curious what other programs feel were the most beneficial and also successful in proving to being effective for their orgs?

Hi there, Becky.  At San Diego Humane, we offer supported self-rehoming options through the Rehome by Adopt A Pet, Home To Home, and GetYourPet.com websites.  The program is listed on the organization's website and explains the benefits of opting to go the direct, owner-to-owner route over taking the pets to a shelter.  We've received positive feedback from both previous and new owners and were able to successfully divert many cases that would have most likely ended up in an owner surrender.  You can check out our link here:  Give Up a Pet (Rehome) | San Diego Humane Society (sdhumane.org), and of course, feel free to reach out if you have any questions regarding the program and process.
