Hello, I am looking for organizations that are invested in teaching responsible pet ownership to kids. I have been making the argument that we need to move past traditional humane education (empathy, bite prevention) and talk about the issues that are overwhelming animal control agencies and shelters. I have written several books for kids that address spay/neuter, pet homelessness, microchipping, and the essential provisions necessary for animals. These books are generally geared for kids in early-mid elementary school, and are meant to provide them with the information they need so they and their families can be responsible pet owners.
A lot of books and programs I have found tend to work with younger kids and focus on bite prevention, body language and kindness. Is anyone else looking for education that is focused more on responsible pet ownership - and if so, what are you doing, what materials are you using, etc.
