Dear Everyone,
My name is Iresha Anderson, and I lead a nonprofit organization in Sri Lanka dedicated to animal welfare. Baw Baw Animal Welfare
Our work includes urgent rescue services, free spay/neuter campaigns, sanctuary care for permanently disabled dogs, educational workshops, and saving farm animals from slaughter. These farm animals are rehomed with farmers who commit to providing them lifelong care.
One of the most pressing issues we've identified in Sri Lanka is the lack of education on responsible pet ownership. Many people are unaware of the importance of vaccinating, spaying, and neutering their pets. Others who breed dogs often confine them to cages 24/7, not recognizing the benefits of exercise and mental stimulation.
To address these challenges and create a sustainable income source, we are planning to open a pet store focused on promoting responsible pet ownership. This store will provide education and resources on pet care while offering products and services that align with our mission.
I am reaching out to ask:
- For those working with underprivileged communities outside the USA, what innovative methods have you used to educate people about responsible pet ownership?
- Funding opportunities: Do you know of any grants, programs, or organizations that could help us offset the initial costs of launching this business?
Your insights and suggestions would be invaluable as we embark on this journey to create a more compassionate community for animals in Sri Lanka.
Thank you so much for your time and support.
