My name is Debbie (Hogan) Johnson, and I am reaching out to seek guidance and explore opportunities to reconnect with the animal welfare community. I have nearly two decades of experience working as an Animal Care Associate at East Bay SPCA, where I provided comprehensive care for dogs and cats, implemented enrichment activities, and trained volunteers. Unfortunately, last year, I had to retire from my position with the organization due to physical limitations caused by osteoarthritis and chronic back issues.
Over the past year, I have focused on continuous learning and professional development. I have completed certifications in proofreading, copyediting, line editing, and developmental editing/manuscript evaluation. These new skills complement my extensive experience in animal welfare and enable me to contribute in various capacities, from content creation to administrative support.
I am currently looking for advice on how to best re-enter the field, particularly in roles that can accommodate my physical limitations. I am open to volunteering, part-time work, or remote opportunities where I can make a meaningful impact. Any insights, advice, or leads on potential opportunities would be greatly appreciated.
