    Hello friends,

I wanted to see if any of you know of any part time employment opportunities in animal welfare that are possibly work from home? I miss the shelter world and want to still contribute to the cause but I just cannot commit to that work full time. We have a wonderful community here on the forum so I thought I'd reach out here first. I'd love to hear any ideas you may have if  any at all.

We don't have it here, but I wouldn't be surprised if a shelter had remote application processing or data entry needs.  It might not be a paying gig but I bet if you offered it as a volunteer position someone would be interested.
Also our Finance person works from home on occasion.  That was mostly during the pandemic but it shows that there are definitely opportunities.

RPSM has remote volunteer-from-home volunteer positions available where people can do data entry, help process applications, website updates, and more.  We are all volunteers and you can volunteer remotely if this is something someone would like to do. To get started is filling out a volunteer application at https://rpsm.org

    Hey Marissa,

I definitely understand the feeling of wanting to still be a part of the animal welfare world, even without physically being in the shelter. Most of the ideas I've encountered or have come across are volunteer-oriented, but for part-time stuff, you may want to look into things like weekend clinics, if you're a vet or a vet tech. Everyone I know is desperate for any veterinary help they can find and places like Tractor Supply or PetsMart that offer vaccination clinics may be looking to hire for the occasional weekend. As for shelters itself, I actually reached out to some local rescues and offered my services as a grant writer at an insanely reduced rate. It lets me still contribute to the shelter without actually being there.

For part-time, work from home things, I think your best bet may be to reach out to shelters to see what they need, and then come up with a job that you can pitch to them. Things like helping to set up specific programs and get it running, or even doing what is basically contract work setting up events or getting a shelter's social media off the ground and creating the framework to make it sustainable would be something I could see shelters being interested in.

Sorry I don't have any specific leads I can point you in the direction in. I've primarily had success convincing a shelter of the job I can do and then going from there, rather than seeking job postings.

    Good luck!

Marissa, bless you for wanting to stay involved! Your local shelter may need someone to coordinate their volunteers,  contact rescue organizations or coordinate a foster program. These are all needed in shelters of any size. You might be their social media Guru to highlight animals or programs that need some help. Don't underestimate the ways you can contribute! You could also arrange transports if needed. You could try to do some fund raising for your local organization or do a donation drive.  I'm sure any organization would be thrilled to have someone to do any of these things. Hope this helps!

    Hey Marissa,

I always different types of job advertisments with a link I use (Simply Hired).   You can go in and type in search words such as Animal, Animal Shelter, Animal Control and when you save them, you can sign up for notifications and it will email you whenever those keywords are used in a job listing.   I see all sorts of different jobs and positions with Animal welfare agencies.  I'm sure Indeed.com does the same.

    Hope this helps :)

    Marissa,

I would like to think in your current role, you are contributing. And you've gone through quite a lot already so thank you. In terms of work from home, can you share more of what you want to do? You can also email me. In addition our Chief of Engagement is in ATL now, you could possibly connect with her. Her email is sheila@careawo.org.
