Survey Opportunity ($500 Raffle!) Support Services for Tenants with Pets

  • 1.  Survey Opportunity ($500 Raffle!) Support Services for Tenants with Pets

    Posted yesterday

Good afternoon, all! My name is Lauren Loney and I'm a researcher at Denver University's Institute for Human-Animal Connection. I'm also an attorney and advocate for increasing equitable access to rental housing that is both affordable and that allows renters' pet(s).

If you complete the survey, your organization will be entered into a drawing to win a $500 donation!!

I'm posting today hoping you'll take 10-15 minutes to fill out this important survey aimed at understanding the resources that organizations like yours may be providing renters with pets and/or the barriers that your clients are bringing up related to accessing or keeping rental housing with their pet. This survey is for ALL organizations who support clients, regardless of whether you currently have any programs specifically supporting renters with pets! If you don't have any pet-related services, you can indicate that in the survey 🙂.
You can complete the survey at this link using a secure REDCap platform or using this QR Code:

If you have colleagues from other organizations that you think would be interested in this survey, please feel free to forward this email!

Why are we doing this research?
The lack of access to affordable, pet-inclusive housing is consistently cited as one of the top reasons for why renters, and especially low-income renters, have to separate from pets they love. This accounts for up to 30% of all pet relinquishments to animal shelters in many cities. Renters have compared having to choose between a roof over their heads and their pet as like "a life or death" decision.
What are examples of pet-related services for renters?
We know that many types of organizations - from tenants' rights organizations, food pantries, animal shelters and rescues, and organizations dedicating to assisting families living in poverty - are supporting renters with pets. However, to our knowledge, no study has aimed to understand the extent to which these many organizations are addressing this issue within their existing programming. With this survey, we hope to fill in that knowledge gap and use this information to more intentionally shape both programmatic and advocacy goals in our communities.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to discuss this issue further! I can be reached at lauren.loney@du.edu.
Thank you so much for all you're doing to support your community of people and pets!
