    Hey there!

Curious to see what the SOPs are for other shelters when this situation arises.

We get many cats/dogs in that are already spayed/neutered, but if a tattoo is not present they are still brought to surgery to get sedated for "confirm" and placing a tattoo. There are many times that animals are being transferred from elsewhere with sterilization certificates, but the SOP is still for them to go to surgery for a sedated tattoo. I feel like this is pointless, since they are induced for surgery just for a tattoo- which is long process that can delay them being available for adoption up to a week (they have to be placed on the next available surgery slot and will wait in an intake area until that date, recover for a day, then be moved to the adoption floor as long as there is space available).

Let me know what you all would do in that situation!

    Thanks

We will do what we have to in order to confirm the spay or neuter. If we did not do the sx we will not tattoo but we may ear tip a cat.
