Hi All:
For those of you who utilize fosters, how are you tracking their hours in an online volunteer scheduler?
We are utilizing Volgistics for volunteer scheduling and to track volunteer hours (we are small and it works great for our needs), however I'm not sure how many volunteer hours  to add to time sheets for a foster. Technically, they have a pet for 24 hours days but that seems excessive.

We don't track hours, instead, we track how many animals are in our foster program each month, how many foster homes we are using each month, and we separate out dogs in foster, cats in foster, puppies, and kittens. We also add all that up for the end-of-year board report and annual review. Hopefully, that helps!

Do yall distinguish volunteer hours by activity? We have all volunteer in Volgistics by activity. ie... Cattery, K9 Crew, ect...

We also use Volgistics for tracking volunteer hours. For every day an animal is in foster, the volunteer logs two hours of volunteer service. If they are fostering multiple animals (like a litter of kittens) or an animal with extensive medical needs, they log three volunteer hours. We also give fosters the option of logging their hours daily or once each week.

We discussed this and decided to have fosters add hours for care-feeding, cleaning, socializing, etc each day

At San Diego Humane Society, we use 3 hours per day per animal with a max of 10 hours per day.
