Hi, I was hoping that by making this post I could hear a bit about other shelters/rescues TNVR programs. At the Little Traverse Bay Humane society, we are actually gathering research regarding TNVR in order to one day (hopefully soon) to establish a TNVR program for our community. We have a lot of people whose properties are popular dump sites for kittens and unwanted cats, or that already have an established feral cat colony that keep getting bigger due to dumping or reproduction and we really want to be able to help them out.

I'd love any and all advice regarding TNVR programs and how to get them started!

Very important...ALWAYS use the word "return" and not release.  Otherwise the uninformed public will misunderstand and think that you are speaking of sterilizing cats and "releasing" them  in places you may have predetermined.... like the people "dumping" them.     Our organization has had a lot of pushback by people who literally thought we "released" cats into neighborhoods and parks.... away from where they were trapped.   And some of these people who misunderstood were animal welfare professionals!!!  WOW!

On that note, the public will be your biggest advocate and and your worst adversary... so think strategic when it comes to starting your program in regards to your community message.

Thank you.  Return is better than release.  I like the word and I thinking is more professional.

Subject: Proposal for Collaboration on TNVR Program in Charleston, SC

    Dear Ky Crawford,

My name is Myriam Martinez, and I represent Mujeres Latinas de Carolina del Sur. , a passionate advocate for animal welfare and environmental conservation here in Charleston, SC.

It has come to our attention that your organization shares a similar vision, particularly in the initiation of a TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) program. We are thrilled to learn about your commitment to this cause, and we believe that by joining forces, we can amplify our impact on the community and the well-being of our feline friends.

Given our common goal, we would love to propose a collaboration. By sharing information, resources, and experiences, we can create a synergy that benefits both organizations and, more importantly, the animals we aim to help.

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to the possibility of making a positive impact together.

    Warm regards,

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this, but I will talk to the higher ups and see about starting a collaboration. I hope that we can help each other out in this endeavor.

Thanks for the more appropriate verbage " return vs release" . we have at least 5 (so far) known free roaming cat group areas in our little town. 2 are on or adjacent to municipal property . On a break from writing the grant narrative for seed money for a program. Going to edit the draft. As well thanks for the slide show reference. I will use this if  get funds to start the program as a tool to educate ans sustain the program.
