Hi everyone- I wanted to share an amazing strategy my team employed this week to get two dogs back to their owner, one that was doing very poorly in the shelter and was scheduled for euthanasia!
So we found out that the owner of these two dogs had commented on a post on a lost pet page that these were her dogs, but no one was able to get her to respond back to them on that page (probably because some people were being really mean to her!).
So knowing these dogs had an owner, our supervisors asked all of our technicians in morning meeting to get out their phones and see if they had any mutual friends with this person. Sure enough- two of our staff members did, and so they reached out and sent a friend request. A few minutes later, it was accepted and our staff member connected the owner to our Pet Reunification Specialist, who processed the reclaim remotely for $0. The dogs are being fixed today and then are headed back home.
Lesson learned- your staff does not just work at your shelter- they are part of your community and can help increase your connections and make contact with people. Use them!
