Hi Rosalie;
Congratulations! There are a lot of components to starting a new 501 c3 organization. The most important: having a clear mission and having a board in agreement with that mission. Being aware that there is a fair amount of administrative work(you need to be organized or have someone who can be) to managing a non-profit(so you may not be able to handle the admin and fostering at the same time?). Short, mid and long term goals and do they make sense(this is sort of a business plan). Really understanding your "why" and how you will solve the community problem, reach your goals are critical for success and avoiding frustration and burnout.
