  • 1.  What type of furniture for a Meet and Greet room?

    My local shelter is currently in the process of getting contractor bids and applying for grants to build a Doggy Lounge.  This would be used for meet and greets with potential adopters.  We frequently have dogs that don't present well to adopters due to being distracted by other dogs walking by or kennel stress.  Our Doggy Lounge will provide a quiet location and cozy location similar to a home environment.  What type of furniture have you used that allows for comfort, is sturdy and can be wiped down and sanitized?

    We have couch that was donated from a local furniture store, and we just keep a cover over it and change out frequently. We don't bring anyone in the kennel area; all dogs are shown outside of the kennel or in our meet and greet room.

    Hi! At our shelter we use wooden benches for customers that extend across one wall . We will place cots inside as well to give the dogs something to lay on (blankets can be provided given the dog isn't resource guarding/destroying blankets) and tough toys are added in when appropriate with treats for attentive/calm behavior. We do have a "spotlight room" which is more-so furniture friendly and has a couch with removable cushions that we rotate out with other donations when necessary, but for the sake of kennel cough and whatnot I like that our meet and greet furniture is able to be sanitized completely. Hope this helps and I apologize for the long-winded message!
