  • 1.  Where do you post jobs?

    Posted 02-22-2025 07:25 AM

What websites, etc. have you had the best luck with posting open jobs in your facility?

We have recently started having a tough time even getting applicants for some of our jobs (especially part-time work), let alone good hires.

We used to get 95% of our applicants through Indeed, but they recently changed their policy so that they don't show your jobs at all unless you pay them  to "sponsor" the job. I made the decision to pay them for a job sponsorship this week, and STILL haven't had any applicants (part-time kennel attendant job posted).

I need to find some other places to post! We usually post jobs on our own website, our Facebook and Instagram, and Indeed; we'd also post on LinkedIn and Humane Pro for full-time jobs, but not part-time jobs. In the past that has worked well for us.

I would love to hear your techniques for recruiting applicants!!

    Hi,

If your organization is part of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies, they can post the position for you too: https://www.vfhs.org/job-listings

Indeed has the main source of applications for us too. We have also contacted nearby shelters so they can share the position with people they know.

    I hope that helps.

    Hello Erin,

I'm a volunteer coordinator at a small cat-rescue and adoption group in New York City, KittyKind. We've had success filling volunteer positions by posting in the pre-vet programs at local colleges, and in the Post B.A., pre-vet programs at local universities. The drawback for your organization could be that the applicants may not have the medical or administrative experience needed for a particular postion. In general, though, the reponse has been good, and the motivation to learn and stay strong. Regards.

For volunteer positions volunteermatch has been great for remote and virtual tasks. The response for local volunteers through this website has been ... not so good. Many people think "ghosting" is acceptable. To help weed out the irresponsible people I included questions in our add. Including, "Please tell me about the last time you ghosted someone?"  If a person replies without answering the q's I email them and request that they provide me with answers.  Saves time and helps me connect with those who can act responsibly.  There is also idealist.  Here's a link to a google search for  'free volunteer site for nonprofits' https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-e&q=free+volunteer+site+for+nonprofits

Our local university wants us to have a million dollar insurance policy and name them as beneficiary ... that is not in our budget right now.

In our area, northern Nevada, we also have several  businesses that help people find jobs, and temporary staff hiring. This can also help you find a person who only wants part time work.

Also, the hourly wage you are offering may be a limiting factor. I have learned that vet techs in our area earn more than $27/hour.  So when our budget allows for hiring staff, I am allowing $30/hr to find someone who can help in a variety of areas.

Good luck! I hope this helps.

I still post on Indeed!  It tries to make you pay but, if I hit cancel, it continues and let's me post free.  It looks like it won't, but I do not pay and then it goes to free sponsor pending and is posted within 3-5 hours.  I am not sure if this will work for you.  I will include some screen shots.

We also post on LinkedIn and Work For Good, which work best for admin jobs, and Facebook, which does fairly well with any job we post.  Indeed has been the best for Animal Care Specialists FT and PT for us though.
