Candice,
We love sharing information we learn and learning from other organizations. I am sending along a little story of us below to catch you up to speed on who we are. We are a small grassroots organization based in New Orleans with big hearts and huge dreams! I am also attaching our flyer for this upcoming event as well as the Media Advisory so you will have a brief overview of what our plans are!
WISH US LUCK, this is a whole new ballgame for us! genie
t all started in 2013 with a $3,000 truck-ugly, hard to drive, and painted with a homemade logo. My daughter and I filled it with toys, treats, and supplies, then rolled through the streets of New Orleans, stopping wherever we saw dogs outside. No judgment. No lectures. Just help.
We believed then, and still do,that shelters and rescues, while necessary, are not the answer. More shelters just mean more places for pets to be surrendered. The real solution? Helping people before surrender becomes the only option. We saw that families loved their pets but lacked access to education, vet care, and behavior support. So, we changed our approach.
We sold the truck and set out to meet at-risk pet owners where they were. And in Louisiana, where the mosquito might as well be the state bird, the biggest crisis we found was heartworm disease. Expensive to treat. Brutal on dogs. Widespreadin low-income communities. Prevention was key, but prevention wasn't happening.
So we started a monthly heartworm prevention clinic, and we now have 121 under our belts. We thought maybe 25 people would come. Now? We see up to 150 families at each clinic. And when we saw that traditional heartworm treatment was financially impossible for our clients, we developed a gentler, affordable protocol. It worked. It worked so well that after presenting our [pster results at the American Heartworm Society, top researchers took notice. This summer, we're leading the clinical arm of a 2.5-year study with two of the world's top experts. If our results hold, it could change the wayheartworm disease is treated worldwide.
That's just one piece of what we do. We also provide financial assistance for non urgent but treatable pet health issues, behavior support to prevent surrenders, and spay/neuter services for families who otherwise couldn't afford them. We don't do it alone. Our partnerships with nonprofits serving low-income communities, LSU's veterinary school, and vet tech students make our work possible. Partnerships are our strength, including the incredible support we have from the local veterinary community who know we aren't their competition, that our client's choice is not them or us, it's TIP or nothing.
At our core, we're not just treating animals,we're treating communities. The One Health model drives what we do. People and pets share environments, resources, even health risks. If a pet is sick, that often means their human is struggling, too. By helping people care for their pets, we strengthen families, improve mental health, and lighten financial burdens. The human-animal bond is powerful, and when we support it, we create healthier, more resilient communities.
We are small. We are stretched thin. But we are effective.
Animal shelters raise thousands with heartbreaking photos of neglected pets. But our work keeps pets out of those shelters. Prevention isn't flashy. It's not easy to photograph. But it changes lives, both human and animal.
We've been at this since 2014, and the only thing keeping us from doing more is funding. More staff. More clinics. Moreresources to reach the families who need us. That's what's next.
We dream of a world where no one has to choose between feeding their pet and feeding themselves. Where a diagnosis like heartworm doesn't mean a death sentence. Where access to care isn't a privilege, but a given

We are excited to share that The Inner Pup will be conducting our 1st One Healt Wellness people and Pet clinic SUNDAY. I will share photos and information after the event but for now I am sending the link to a WWL TV interview. I did this morning. It's a bit clumsy. No one told me anything beforehand about the time I would have the format whether it would be me just chatting or question answer they put a mic on me and that was it. He will definitely get the gist of it, and we are excited to share what we learned with everyone, considering one health as the next step!

Hi!
My name is Gabbie and I manage Greater Good Charities' Family and Pet Renovations. We assist human service shelters, and animal shelters with creating pet safe spaces so that people can seek safety with their pets in tow. I also am part of the Don't Forget the Pets team, where we provide free coaching including designs, renderings, budgets, and more for individual organizations who are looking to enhance or create pet accommodations in their housing. In my role I am constantly communicating with human service shelters to look at their individual space and create unique plans for their shelter, and about 8 months out of the year I will travel to some of these shelters to complete the renovations with my team.
I really look forward to learning from this community, I am fairly new to this space so I am ready to learn all that I can! Nice to meet you all. :)
