I am looking for SOPs/manuals/policy statements about the in-shelter care of animals that are on "legal/evidence holds."  Are these animals given the same level of care as other animals legally available for adoption, or are volunteers restricted in the time and effort they can provide?  Are these animals warehoused as pieces of "evidence," or are they given the same consideration as other animals in the shelter?  Who is responsible for interfacing with law enforcement and the prosecutor?  Who is the "victim's advocate" for these animals?  Who makes sure that if state law provides a way to gain forfeiture of these animals even while criminal matters are pending, that all reasonable resources and efforts are put into pursuing that?  You get the idea …  I have the very good ASPCA Position Statement.  Shelter-level SOPs, especially government-owned shelters where the hands-on work is performed by volunteers, would be particularly helpful.
