Has anyone ever done a Pity Party to work at getting information out about Pit bulls and also work at getting them adopted. Our shelter as well as the county shelter has a big number of Pits and I would like to do a joint event to get them homes. Looking for idea on promoting and marketing it as well as any other ideas on pulling this off.

Check in with the folks at St. Huberts Animal Society. When I visited there they did a whole poster campaign using words like Fabullous with these great photos of bully type dogs  - to highlight all the wonderful features of dogs...

    Hi Katdad,

Have you thought about primarily doing a promotion for big dogs and not necessarily 'pit bulls'? Given that pit bulls are just dogs, sometimes focusing on them makes people think that there is something super different about them and there isn't. And especially for many communities its not 'just' dogs that look like pit bulls. some have surpluses of hounds, some huskies, some german shepherds, etc. Here's a good webpage https://animalfarmfoundation.org/shelter-rescues/adoption-marketing/ and an e-book that i highly recommend about finding homes for big dogs https://animalfarmfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Adoption-Policies-Procedures-E-Book.pdf

Let us know what you decide to do and how it works!

    Sheila
